Good fats & bad fats

  

There are 3 main types of fats: saturated fats, polyunsaturated fats and mono-unsaturated fats.

Good fats - mono-unsaturated fats are mainly in olive oils* 1. Saturated fats are the bad fats. They are found in animal products: meat, game, eggs, dairy products (milk, butter, cheese, cream).

* 2. Polyunsaturated fats are good fats. They contain the same amount of calories, but offer many benefits for health, like protection against heart disease. They are found in corn oil, sunflower oil, nuts and seeds.

* 3. Mono-unsaturated fats are good fats too. They are found especially in olive oil, and also in avocados, nuts and seeds.

Olive oil, in particular extra virgin olive oil, is the best type of fat you can possibly have. Olive oil, unlike animal fats, does not contain cholesterol, and it offers many benefits for health. Research has shown that it may help to protect against heart disease by reducing the amount of cholesterol in the blood and it also decreases the risk of developing certain types of cancer, like breast and colon cancer.
